A bit of history

Serving best Italian in Southsea since 1999

Our story began 20 years ago when Sandy and her friend decided they wanted to do something completely different with their life’s and inject some real passion into the floundering food scene in Southsea. They took over a small basic pizzeria ran by the notorious Fabio.

The menu was ripped up and expanded and with the help of local chef legend George they created the Southsea Institution that is now Soprano’s.

Over the years many and have come and gone and Palmerston road has changed dramatically. But the boss Sandy is still here and with the support of her son Tommy and their loyal staff, Soprano’s continues to remain an extremely popular restaurant with locals and newbies.

We are renowned for our friendly, informal and vibrant atmosphere which continues to  provide the perfect backdrop for our food.

Our food and wine menu is ever evolving, inspired by Italy but sourced as locally as possible. All of our meat comes from Southsea’s Buckwell’s Butchers around the corner, our fish is supplied by Johnson’s Enterprises in Old Portsmouth and Bellord and Brown supply our fruit and vegetables and are specialists in the best produce from Hampshire and the Isle of Wight.

We also prepare everything fresh, so any special requests, suggestions or dietary requirements can usually be accommodated, just ask and we will be happy to help.

Sopranos has received recognition locally winning the news guide award for best restaurant and nationally in The Independents ‘Top 50 Cheap Eats”.
